Jetting off to Portugal this summer?

Portugal is breathtakingly beautiful in the summer, and it can be tricky to decide what to include on your summer vacation packing list- especially if you like to travel light. When I was planning my Portugal trip earlier this summer I knew I wanted to only take a carry-on, so I used Canva to create a visual packing list. This really helped me streamline the pieces I wanted to take and was very helpful in making sure my pieces could all be mixed and matched during my trip.

1. Comfortable, cute sneakers
You have probably heard this a million times, but it’s true- you absolutely need comfortable walking shoes. I ended up walking between 4-6 miles a day, especially in Lisbon, but no matter where you are, you won’t regret bringing cute, comfy sneakers. Thankfully, there’s no shortage of adorable chic sneakers at every price point.
2. A Jacket!
Even during the sunny, hot summer, it cools off dramatically in Portugal in the evening, and especially so if you are near/on the water. A summery sweater is cute, but you really need something that will actually block the wind. A cute denim jacket is ideal, and looks great over dresses so it’s super versatile.
3. ACTUALLY comfortable sandals
Wearing sandals every day might be tempting, so make sure they are truly comfortable. Waterproof doesn’t hurt, but a cushy supportive sole and comfortable straps are a MUST. Here are our favorite pairs this summer!
4. Linen Pants
A blend of linen and cotton for your pants or trousers makes for the ideal level of comfort, even on the warmest days. Think flowy, drapey, natural fibers and pair with cotton tees or tanks.
5. Crossbody Bag
A small-to-medium bag that you can just throw on and go is perfect.
6. Dresses
This seems obvious, but I want to point out that when you pack your dresses, be strategic about the dresses you choose. You can definitely wear a dress most days in the summer in Portugal, just make sure they are cotton or linen, and that they coordinate with the shoes and jacket you are bringing!
7. Sunglasses
The sun is intense, and the light reflects off all of the gorgeous buildings and the water- so make sure you bring a pair that truly blocks UV rays.
8. Sunscreen
SPF of 50+ is an absolute must. Be sure to pick up a few travel sizes so you can keep one in your bag for reapplying at all times.
9. Appropriate Electrical Adaptor
Again- seems obvious, but is an absolute must. I took this one and it was perfect.
Hopefully this post gives you a starting point for creating your ultimate European summer vacation packing list for Portugal!
